CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY REVISITED (click here to participate)
This blog will remain here for a few days because I think this is important. It will also give me some time to work on a couple other bigger projects.
A recent blog by
ThinkChristiansburg asked if citizens would be asked for their opinions about how such things as facilities and growth are handled (among others).
Well, that spurred me into pulling out that old Survey Monkey account and to try using it get some input from you. Whether or not the Town wants your input, I do. What I have done is taken the
Citizen Satisfaction Survey developed and used by the Town in 1998 as citizen input for their Comprehensive Plan. (I left plenty of room for your comments.)
Unfortunately, the design does little towards ascertaining the citizen's desires for the future of the Town (which is what a Comprehensive Plan does). It does, however, give a tool that when reused provides a means of comparing citizen views in 1998 compared to citizen views in 2009 on some of the issues facing our Town.
Only one question had to be modified and the original text of the question is included as well as the newly phrased one which includes current data concerning growth.
Some of the interesting information I found looking at the population data are (note: 10% growth rate is considered high):
- from 1990 - 2000 the population of Christiansburg increased by 12.95%
- from 2000 - 2007 the population of Christiansburg increased by 13.15%
- from 1990 - 2007 the population of Christiansburg increased by 27.81%
Looking in a bit different direction, the
Building Permits Report from the Town of Christiansburg:
- from 1989 - 2008 there have been 3,462 new residential units constructed
- from 1989 -1998 there were 1,321 new residential units constructed
- from 1999 - 2008 there were 2,141 new residential units constructed
- (the two 10-year numbers above show an increase of 62% in the number of new residential units constructed.
Somethings to ponder:
- if these rates of growth continue the revenue from property taxes will go up, so will the demands upon the Town for services (water, sewer, law enforcement, rescue, recreation, codes enforcement, etc.), what will that mean for property taxes? employee work loads? fees for services?
- what will the Town of Christiansburg look like?
If you have any problems getting the link at the top to open, just go to my
citizen's webpage and click on the link in the bar at the top for surveys. It is the first survey in the list on that page.
