There is a nice summary blog on
ThinkChriansburg today that serves as a historical review of this Country of ours. I would like to take a moment to add that one of the prime elements of self government is to make sure that ALL levels of government are recognized for their importance. I have written previously on the importance of local elections. All things done at the Federal and State levels eventually trickle down to the local level. The only way to keep local government alive and well is to stay INVOLVED!!! We are almost two full years away from the next local elections in Christiansburg where the positions of Mayor and three Town Council Members will be up for grabs. Today is the day to start taking the time to study those who will be running again, and to look for those you may want to encourage to run. You may even want to run yourself.
When you do start looking, think in terms of what is best for the citizens of the Town overall. Sometimes, this will be in direct conflict with what is best for you. You might want to check out the survey on the
citizen's website pertaining to Christiansburg government. The survey asks what your perceptions are about the duties of elected and appointed officials, and how well you think they perform those duties. Your understanding of how government officials work is crucial to making a choice of who to vote for in elections.
Thanks for all of your help with the other surveys. Your responses have given me a lot to think (and to write) about.
