Virginia.gov IdeasWhoa!!! Get back!! Look out!!
The Governor's office wants to know what you think. This is a fairly new way in which the average citizen can make suggestions for changes at the State level. Some of the ideas I have read are really good and could be applicable at local levels as well.
One reader suggested the State switch over to a program called Open Office for doing business. I do not know what this would save the state in licenses for Microsoft Office, but I am sure it would be A LOT!!!
I switched to Open Office several years ago. Since that change, I have not had the problems with viruses and system crashes that I frequently had with Microsoft Office.
Most significantly the price for Open Office is great...IT IS FREE!!!
Whole towns, cities, and counties have already switched to Open Office already and more are doing it right now! Along with being free, it has another distinct advantage. It can be used on Mac, PC, Linux, and Unix systems. What I work on in spreadsheet or documents on my PC, I can transfer over to the Mac without any problem at all.
I wonder how much money the Town of Christiansburg would save if they switched to Open Office. They must be paying for a lot of Microsoft licenses.
If you or someone you know wants to save a bit of money while making life a bit easier,
check out the information on
Open Office for yourself!
If you have ideas for how to do things better, cheaper, more efficiently, etc. the be sure to go to

(Yes, I am just kind of filling time while I am doing some major research on some HOT topics! By the way, does anyone know what the word Barratry means?:)
