At the Town Council Meeting held on Jan 6, 2009, a citizen asked Town Council what they knew about an event that is already scheduled that will be using the Aquatic Center.  Both the Town Manager and the Mayor advised they had no knowledge of the event and none of the Council Members reported having any knowledge of it either (see the videos/listen to the audios of this meeting).

Yep, the same Aquatic Center that isn't finished, may be subject to more delays (or not), does not have a finalized contract with Virginia Tech, and does not have any commitment from Tech as to how much of the facility and at what times the facility will be required by Tech.

Let's see if I got this right. We got a kitchen (Aquatic Center), 2 teams of blindfolded cooks without a sense of smell, a table full of ingredients all in the same size, shape, and unmarked containers ... and one group has to fix a pot of stew and the other has to make a souffle .... only one person on each team is allowed to know what the team is required to prepare. Oh, now this should be interesting.

A bit of research by a concerned citizen determined that the new Aquatic Director is the one who arranged the event. If you go by the responses from the Town Manager and the Town Council, this was done without their knowledge. If it happened without the Town Manager's knowledge, it may be something worth submitting to the Guinness World Records as the first time anyone in town so much as passed gas without having to first garner the approval of the Town Manager. Just kidding....but, you have to admit the Town Manager (at the very least) keeps a close eye on everything going on in town. I am surprised anything could slip by his notice. I am even more surprised that something of this magnitude, involving closing of streets, extra law enforcement, extra rescue, etc. would already be nationally advertised without local government being advised of the process.

Interested in meeting the new Aquatic Center Director? Don't wait for her to be brought before Town Council for an introduction, she will be at St. Paul's Methodist Church on February 5th to have a program on the Aquatic Center - lunch at noon with a half-hour program at 12:30.
