Smoke and Mirrors! But who is lighting those fires?
Posted 7/21/2010
This hit the email/internet route about 4:30 PM yesterday, just a few hours before the Public Hearing for the Sage Lane project. When this came up during the Hearing, most council members looked puzzled as did the engineer handling the Ivy Ridge (the let's kill Sage Lane) project ...

Town Manager or Town Council, who can really take credit for the good and the bad?
Posted 7/19/2010
The BlueRidgeMuse has an article that pretty much sums up most of my own thoughts on the move of Christiansburg Lance Terpenny to Floyd. (See the Article) While there has been a great deal of fervor over the performance of Mr. Terpenny in the Town of Christiansburg, one particular item keeps getting

A 3 year contract for the Town Manager was considered, but was it simply a diversion?
Posted 7/10/2010
The Virginia State Code has some interesting information on length of time of appointments and on severance packages. Very, very interesting. Was the 3-year contract really even being considered, or was it another smoke screen?

Christiansburg: Filling the Town Manager's Shoes (Town Charter Style)
Posted 7/8/2010
While I certainly hope the Town of Christiansburg takes the opportunity to take a close look at what is needed in a Town Manager for a town this size, the more immediate concern is what happens as of August 1 when the current Town Manager is out of office. Christiansburg says good-bye to Town Manager, Floyd says hello.
Posted 7/7/2010
I do wonder how much will happen in Floyd concerning development, growth, and annexation over the next few years. Where as Christiansburg has been big-box business oriented, Floyd is well know for its small, local shops, its arts and crafts, and its general appeal for tourists. I love shopping there

Posted 7/4/2010
Radford steps forward, Christiansburg steps backward. Contracts are coming up in both jurisdictions. In Radford, it is for the town attorney, in Christiansburg, it is for the town manager. Although both involve contracts the differences in the reasoning behind them could not be more different.

Where did the Town Manager Contract Come From? Maybe here?
Posted 6/29/2010
I think I may have found the sample document used by the Town Manager to compose his contract with. It is just scary...way too scary...to think that the Town Council might actually entertain such a document as this sample presents.
