Entry 426 of 501

It opened about 2:00 this morning, in Cambria. Oh, yeah, a river of mud and gravel flooded down Depot Street from both directions filling drain paths and blocking routes to the storm drains. Meghan Dorsett and I have been out for the last 2+ hours shoveling and trying to keep the Depot and Emporium from being damaged AGAIN!. (By the way, I also cleaned up the blockage that was pushing water up against the Electrical Supply store about 2 inches deep in water, hope they didn't get much flood damage this time.

There is a virtual lake between the two depots where storm water from the town's storm water system is dumping out. The town, in it's infinite wisdom pushed a lot of the snow residue (including the gravel they spread on the road) onto the railroad property, effectively blocking access to one of the storm drains.

Oh, yeah, I had the camera with me and took the occasional bit of footage when I had a moment to stop shoveling.

I cannot help but wonder how many people are going to awaken this morning to the same types of issues.

This is not about rain, it is not about development, it is not about growth, it IS about the continued intentional failure of the town to enforce codes and manager stormwater. The Town has a responsibility to make sure that they do not take steps that cause harm to citizens. This is negligence and malfeasance. This is a disrespect for citizens and for their own Town Code.

Oh, and by the way, you should hear the noises coming out of the sewer covers. And, the odor isn't all that pleasant either.

Phone calls to Elected offiicals were not responded to....

As some of you know, I have Lupus. I shouldn't be out in the rain doing this. I shouldn't be going without sleep, but I have no alternative because the Elected and Appointed Officials of the Town of Christiansburg simply DO NOT CARE.

I will have to update this later because right now, I need to set up a list of phone calls to make when other government offices open later today.

I hope that any of you who awaken to similar problems or if you hear of anyone who does, that you will please contact me or ask them to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 382-6431 (when not shoveling and clearing drains) or via email at calindstrom@verizon.net. Any photographs taken, I will be happy to post on the website or hold for referral to the appropriate agency.

Hope your day is going better than mine....and, oh...by the way, you are right....I am angry...nope, I'm very angry.....nope, I have furious!!!

The pool is open alright, just not the right pool.
